on acting
What would you say is your personal favourite part about the film-making process?
"Probably your curiosity about other people. Investigation of other people. Makes you think more of other people. I go that way. I go the way Jean Renoir went. Most actors are rather self-indulgent, like it's my character and my process and my motivation and blah, blah, blah. [...] If you enjoy character work, which I do, you have to consider the humanity a lot more than you do most other work - unless you're a writer, which is the hardest."
